The British School of Nanjing Parents and Friends Organisation
The Parents and Friends Organisation is committed to supporting both social and fund-raising events at the school. This academic year we held an international lunch on UN Day where the children were delighted to munch on chocolate brownies, lamingtons, crepes and a huge selection of delicious Korean and Chinese specialties, organised a super spooky Halloween event for the children Foundation and arranged an Easter egg hunt and face painting for the spring term Family Fun Day. The Family Fun Days are key events in the P and F calendar providing all parents with the opportunity to meet new people, enjoy some great food and become part of the BSN community.

Speech Day and Awards Ceremony 2010
The doors opened and the students shuffled in, excitedly talking about all the awards lined up on the main table.

Headmaster, Mr Bishop strolled to the microphone and began his speech by congratulating the students on a year well done. The theme of the speech was tenacity, endeavour and reaching for a higher goal even when you may feel like not trying at all.

Foundation Stage Summer Splash Day
The Foundation Splash day came just in time as summer temperatures started to soar.

Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception students came together for a day of fun in the pools and a great opportunity to soak their teachers.

Three pools were set up in the playground area as students excitedly changed into their swimming attire.

The British School of Nanjing Summer Camp
From Monday 31st May until Wednesday 2nd June the Middle School were away on a trip facing some fearful situations at Nanbei Lake. Some comments we will remember include ‘Mr. Polson - there is a lizard in my boat’, ‘I don’t like heights’, ‘I can’t do that, it’s too far’, and ‘there is a bug in my bedroom’. Then came, ‘that was easy’, ‘can I do that again?’, ‘what’s next?’ and ‘can we stay longer?’. All of the Middle School students gained a great deal for the experience by either facing their fears or by completing some very challenging activities.

The British School of Nanjing Summer Faire
Although the morning spoke of rain the sun begrudgingly came out to join us at the 2010 Summer Faire.

Families began showing up at 2:45 and the first arrivals took to the football pitch and began practicing for the football shoot-out.

Cackles of laughter could be heard coming from behind Garden View as children raced down the Slip and Slide and then raced back up the hill for another go.

Nanjing Football League a Smashing Success
The White Tigers roared through the 2010 Summer Season undefeated and laid claim to the league championship. Despite being the team with the least amount of substitutes, the White Tigers managed to battle through using team work and passing as their standard.

Youth Swimming Classes in Nanjing
Swimming classes opened and the students are all wet about it.

The students dawned their swimming suits and goggles and prepared for a series of PE classes soaked in fun.

With the opening of the new Shuanglong Highway, many families benefit to being 15 minutes closer to the British School.

Nanjing Nearly Goes up in Flames: Science Week
Science and Engineering week started off in a blaze, literally.

Monday morning’s school assembly was led by Mr Gregor Polson (Middle school coordinator and Chemist). Mr Polson introduced the idea behind Engineering and Science Week along with the history of Earth Day.

School Hosts BSN Family Fun Day in Nanjing
BSN and Nanjing Families poured in through the school’s front gate today and were welcomed by one of the most beautiful days since winter’s passing.

Stationed near the door, children gathered around the Face Painting booth. Manned by a force of BSN’s volunteer mothers, the children laughed with delight as they had their favorite characters painted on their hands, faces, or arms.

Students Raise Money for Nanjing's Hopeful Hearts
We are proud to announce that the Hopeful Hearts Non Uniform Day was a smashing success. BSN students raised 2,450 RMB for the emergency heart surgery fund needed for 2 local children.

Nanjing Co-ed Youth Football League Will Begin March 13th
The British School of Nanjing in conjunction with www.nanjingexpat.com is sponsoring Nanjing’s first annual co-ed youth football league (NYFL).

The league will be open to children ages 5-6 and 7-13, to be held at Zheng De College sports complex.

International Flights, Back to School and One Last Holiday Surprise
Our family of international students boarded planes at different destinations across the globe as the winter holiday season was wearily ushered out.

Students from 4 different continents (Or 6 depending on where you are from) landed safely back in Nanjing and began preparing for the last bit of winter and the start of our Spring Term.

Christmas abroad can sometimes be a hard time for families living far away from home. However, BSN students demonstrated how a Christmas spent in a foreign country can
be a wonderful experience if we are willing to embrace the international culture of Christmas.

Frosty the Snowman in a Nanjing School?
Rumors stated that frosty the snowman sneaked into school gates around 11:00 AM on Monday, November 16th. This reporter had his doubts as to “weather” this was possible or not—I knew our security team was watching the gates and it usually doesn’t snow in Nanjing.

Nanjing School Celebrates Bon Fire Night (Guy Fawkes Day)
British International Schools across China celebrated Guy Fawkes Day. Here at the Nanjing School (BSN), Timo Mcvey (BSN music teacher) invited Tony El Chico local Jazz legend to come in and prepare the children for their night’s performance.

Ghosts Thrive in International Schools in Nanjing
A report came out today, that there are ghosts thriving in Nanjing international schools!

Apparently, a passer by witnessed nearly one-hundred ghosts, cowboys, spiders, skeletons and other creepy things of various heights, swarming throughout one of Nanjing’s international schools.

UN Day at The British School of Nanjing
Colors were everywhere to be seen today as 22 different Nationalities converged to make us a truly international school. The British School of Nanjing has students from 22 different countries and each of them had an opportunity to share pieces of their cultures while celebrating the others.

This term’s Family Fun Day saw a large turn out as The British School of Nanjing’s families and friends came to enjoy the beautiful weather and great food. Organized by the school’s P and F group, families brought food and played football throughout the afternoon.

Moon Festival Assembly
Wednesday BSN came alive with the story of the Moon Festival. All of the children performed songs and plays describing how the Moon Festival came to be. Thanks particularly goes out to Ms. Feng and the Chinese Department for their great work.

BSN celebrated the end of another great year with our annual Presentation & Prize Giving Day on 3rd July.

British Consul Carma Elliot and incoming headmaster, Nik Bishop, presented awards, and students performed several solo and ensemble musical acts.

BSN Gets High Marks on SATs
We are proud to announce another year of excellent SATs (Standardised Assessment Test) results.

In Reading, 85 percent of our students in Years 2-6 scored at the UK average or higher; in writing, 79 percent; and in Maths 90%!

Reception Class Visits Lufthansa Plane
The children in Reception class had a special visit from Thomas Mantels, a pilot from Lufthansa Airlines.

Thomas came to BSN to talk with the class, and the following day the children were invited to board a real Boeing 777 airplane!
