![]() Music is considered to have a fundamental place within the curriculum at The British School of Nanjing. Musical education, therefore, begins in Pre-Nursery and continues in every year level. In addition to covering the basic National Curriculum requirements, the school runs the following programmes provided by highly trained and qualified music teaching staff. |
Early Years Music ProgrammeFrom Pre-nursery to Reception (ages 2 to 5) pupils are introduced to music and it's various aspects through playing, singing and dancing in daily sessions lasting 15 to 30 minutes. Each child also has the opportunity to begin to play a simple musical instrument and through a very practical approach begin to understand fundamental aspects of music such as rhythm and harmony. |
Primary Music ProgrammeAll pupils from Years 1 to 6 follow the Primary Music Programme, designed to develop each student's understanding and appreciation of music. In addition, each pupil's musical experience is built up through our Primary Instrumental Programme whereby each child learns to play the recorder. |
Instrumental Music ProgrammePupils with a greater interest in music are encouraged to join the Instrumental Music Programme in which they receive individual music lessons once or twice a week in their chosen instrument by a specialist teacher. |
School ChoirOne of the very special aspects of our school is the BSN School Choir. The choir perform regularly at school events and within the community. Joining the choir is a great way to develop self confidence and an appreciation of singing. Students from Years 3 to 7 can become a member and practice takes place in non-curriculum time, usually 1 to 2 times per week. |
