Speech Day and Awards Ceremony 2010The doors opened and the students shuffled in, excitedly talking about all the awards lined up on the main table. Headmaster, Mr Bishop strolled to the microphone and began his speech by congratulating the students on a year well done. The theme of the speech was tenacity, endeavour and reaching for a higher goal even when you may feel like not trying at all. After Mr Bishop’s introduction, the school choir gave their first performance and wooed the audience with their wonderful voices. Although the choir was a difficult act to follow, Year 4’s Yoo Bin equally enthralled both parents and students alike with her masterful performance on the piano. With the mood properly set, it was time to give away the awards and to celebrate all of the students who showed tenacity and endeavour in both their behaviour and academic performance. One after one, the students came to the stage to receive their honours as they were cheered on by proud peers, parents and teachers. What an amazing sight it was to see the children being recognised for their efforts and to see how excited each child was to hold their certificates and plaques, realizing that all of their hard work was paying off. Throughout the year we witnessed students who “gave it their all” and strove to reach their full potential, whether in music, art, maths, science, literacy or sport someone always “stepped-up” and gave the proverbial 110%. So to all of our students…well done! We will look forward to the 2010 / 11 academic year and to welcoming all of current and new students in to have another go, to try something even when we aren’t sure exactly how to do it and to be tenacious even when we don’t feel 100%.
