Nanjing Football League a Smashing Success

The White Tigers roared through the 2010 Summer Season undefeated and laid claim to the league championship. Despite being the team with the least amount of substitutes, the White Tigers managed to battle through using team work and passing as their standard.

In their final match of the season, The Blue Typhoons (2nd in league standings) gave a last minute surge to try and cost The White Tigers a loss. After a crowd pleasing equalizer by Caroline, the Typhoons raced the clock for the elusive 3rd goal which would have given the Typhoons the advantage.

With the clock winding to a close, Cristian (league phenom and Winner of the “best Sportsman” award) ran the ball down into Typhoon territory ending the match in a 2 – 2 draw.

Although the Tigers took home the trophy every team came out a winner as players were able to compete against and make friends with players from the broader Nanjing community. With 22 nationalities represented and 5 different schools participating, the Nanjing Youth Football League’s (NYFL) first season was an amazing success.

Although the league focuses on the players we should give a huge “Thank you” to the parents who volunteered as coaches, officials and even one supportive mom who managed to be “fence watcher”, official, water girl and coach all in the same day.

We are looking forward to the 2010 autumn session, beginning in early September, and a lot more laughs, gasps and cheers.
