The British School of Nanjing Summer FaireAlthough the morning spoke of rain the sun begrudgingly came out to join us at the 2010 Summer Faire. Families began showing up at 2:45 and the first arrivals took to the football pitch and began practicing for the football shoot-out. Cackles of laughter could be heard coming from behind Garden View as children raced down the Slip and Slide and then raced back up the hill for another go. Art was the theme at Sarah Pinney’s stall and students of all ages gave their hand at the intricately painted mural. Not to be missed was “Craig’s Delicatessen” and an assortment of fresh baked treats that had everyone coming back again and again despite their promises of “Just one more”. Not to be out done, Miss Price and Miss Neely roamed school grounds offering fresh lemonade which was heartily welcomed by the thirsty guests. Class assistants Mr King and Mr Burrows were soapy and wet as students lined-up to toss water filled sponges at them in exchange for a small donation to the library. More than a few, I am nearly ashamed to say, aimed for the face. I was one of them! The day ended with a Child V. Adult football match that would rival any World Cup fixture (well maybe not that good but definitely more fun!) It was another wonderful day spent with family, friends and the increasingly warm Nanjing sun.
