Speech Day The achievements and efforts of the students at the British School of Nanjing were celebrated in a packed hall at the Jingling Hotel on Friday, 8th July. Students from Year 1 upwards were lauded and applauded for their year-round efforts in a range of subjects from P.E. to Maths, via Music and Chinese, and, with some of the results of this work on display through the fabulous art work hanging and 'dancing' its way around the hall, it was clear that each award was well-deserved. Before the presentations, Nicholas Bishop, departing headmaster, spoke about ‘talent’ and ‘hard-work’ and the need for continued practice to sharpen sklls and the school choir and musicians from BSN showed us just what ‘hard-work’ can do when coupled with talent as they delighted the audience with some moving performances. Before the morning was over, we had also been treated to a key-note speech by JinSong Liu , a key member of the Youth Olympic Games Organising Commitee as he and his associate Jennifer explained how the virtues espoused by the commitee are shared by our school. He then presented our Middle School students – who, when the games open in Nanjing will be the same age as the competitors - with exclusive graphic work – including original designs for the games symbol. And so, with the awarding of the final prize - the House Cup - to the victorious Vikings, the 2010-2011 academic year came to a close. However, we look forward to a bright 2011-2012 and, throuh hard-work and practice, the discovery of yet more talents at BSN.
