Senior School Sport’s Day

Friday 22nd April was the Senior School Sport’s Day – the first at our new campus.

Congratulations to our PE department for their organisation of the day – it was incredibly enjoyable for everyone and I know that the ‘live’ scoring was very popular with both students and parents alike! All of our students should be congratulated for their incredible effort and sportsmanship.
There were some notable performances in each of the events. Archery: David Year 7 scored an amazing 42 points.
Field events: Joschka threw the discus 13.62m, Tara 14.07m and Mia Year 11 an incredible 14.28m; Mia Year 11 threw the shot put 9.03m, Raymond 12.62m and Joshua an awesome 14.75m!

Track events: very impressive speed shown whilst running 100m and 200m from Camille, Klara, Jemimah and Alex Stubbs. Great stamina (and final sprints) shown by Ella, Nuskai, Tara, Alex Wang, Joschka and David in the 800m events.
By the end of the morning Vikings were leading the day with 248 points with Romans in second place with 163 points.
In addition to the achievements above, we witnessed some other very special moments which made me so very proud. Isla ran alongside Line and her sister Mia during the 800m and Isabella ran alongside her sister Nuskai motivating them to keep going and to complete the race. Despite taking a fall during his race, Sun Woo showed immense courage by getting up and running  again so that he too completed his race and he finished alongside his peers.
In the afternoon girls played in an inter-house netball competition, boys played inter-house football, and mixed teams played inter-house touch rugby. The day finished with a tug of war between Normans and Saxons (Normans won) and between Vikings and Romans (Vikings won). The team work we witnessed in all these team events was incredible and goals were being scored fast and furious!
At the end of the day the points were added once more and Vikings were victorious with their 318 points. A great team effort led by their captains who took every opportunity to congratulate their house members on their individual performances. A very well deserved win.
